<p class="has-theme-palette-3-color has-text-color">The overall year-on-year inflation increased to 3.5% in February 2025 from 3.3% in January. This was primarily driven by higher food and gas/LPG prices. The food and non-alcoholic beverages index increased by 0.6%, driven by higher food prices. The housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels index increased by 0.1%, mainly due to increase in gas/LPG prices. Despite the stabilization in diesel and petrol prices, the transport index increased by 0.1%, mainly due to elevated local flight prices.</p>

<p class="has-theme-palette-3-color has-text-color">The overall year-on-year inflation edged 3.3% in January 2025 from 3.0% in December 2024. This was primarily driven by higher food and kerosene prices. The food and non-alcoholic beverages index increased by 1.6%, driven by higher food prices. The housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels index increased by 0.1%, mainly due to increase in kerosene prices. However, despite the increase in diesel and petrol prices, the transport index decreased by 0.4% mainly due to decreased bus/matatu fares.</p>

Additionally, despite the decrease in diesel and petrol prices, the transport index increased by 1.8% mainly due to elevated bus/matatu fares.</p>

<p class="has-theme-palette-3-color has-text-color">The overall year on year inflation edged 2.8% in November 2024 from 2.7% in October, marking the first increase since August. However, it remains below the central bank&#8217;s target range midpoint of 5%. The uptick was primarily driven by rising food prices, with the food and non-alcoholic beverages index increasing by 0.6%. The housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels index decreased by 0.1%, mainly due to decreased LPG (gas) and electricity prices. Despite stable petrol and diesel prices, the transport index increased by 0.2%, due to higher international flight costs.</p>

The transport index declined by 0.3% month-on-month due to decrease in petrol and diesel prices. The housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels index also decreased by 0.3% month-on-month due to to decrease in prices of kerosene and LPG. On the flip side, the food and non-alcoholic beverages index increased by 0.5%</p>
